Call out to cooks + a new soup kitchen in town!

We are doing a call out for people who would like to get involved with "The Community Kitchen", a project happening at the Uniting Church in Merewether that we assisted in setting up!
Currently the project is in need of more 'celebrity chef's'- someone who likes, & is fairly confident with food.... & preferably has had experience in cooking for larger amounts of people.

For more details about this, please contact us on- kumerakitchen@gmail.com or 0401 024 707.

Also! Some of our friends have started up a soup kitchen on Wednesday nights at the Croatia Club, (Albert St. Wickham.) Food is served at 6.30pm.

Photos from Panya Project

New things on the boil

The Community Kitchen is still cranking every Tuesday evening at 178 Glebe Rd, Merewether. Come along & help cook from 4pm, and/or eat at 6pm... get involved however you want to!

Support is always very appreciated. If anyone has an abundance of fruit, veges, herbs, any kinds of goodies from your garden or hanging in your fridge- get in touch, or just bring it along to be used in the feast & shared.

Fern & Tia have just arrived back in Australia from Northern Thailand- they have bought back with the their Permaculture Design Certificate! (thanks panya- http://www.panyaproject.org) This means "Kumera Kitchen" can now officially begin to evolve into "Kumera Kitchen & Permaculture"

One of the first exciting things in the mix, which will begin around spring, is to establish, with the help of the community, a permaculture garden ou
t the back of where soupie is running from. We have drawn up a design for it, so now it's about getting it off (and/or into) the ground!

Love from Panya, Northern Thailand

A little update from (half) the Kumera crew!

Tia & Fern are currently in Northern Thailand on a property called "Panya", getting their Permaculture Design Certificate (mixed in with learning some natural building skills.) We are 5 days into the 15 day course and are already feeling extremely inspired! Permaculture ethics have always been an important part of establishing the running the Kumera Kitchen, so we are enjoying expanding our knowledge, and are very excited about bringing these skills back to the local community. Next door to us is the inspiration for Panya, a seed saving, amazing centre called Pun Pun (www.punpunthailand.org) where we get regular organic, fresh smoothies from. Mmm.

One of the first Kumera projects when we return is to assist the Uniting Church, Merewether (where we helped to establish the weekly kitchen) in setting up a Permaculture garden out the back. We love the idea of being able to pick fresh herbs, green etc to serve up at the weekly meal, as well as sharing skills while implementing & maintaining the garden, and having a space for people to come and make things grow, and other awesome things.

Check out the Kumera Kitchen facebook for a few photos- once we're back in a months time, we will give you a more thorough run down of the course plus many more pictures. Sarah from Kumera is also about to travel for a month- so we will see you kind of soon, refreshed and totally inspired.

Love Kumera x

P.S The chef here spoils us- beautiful thai meals, nearly all vego except for the odd bit of meal from local farms and rivers. YUM!

Filming of "Borrowed" goes swimmingly.

Local film maker and one of the Kumera Kitchen crew, Dwuan LaTrobe, shot his film around various locations in Newcastle this weekend. Listen out for "Borrowed'!

Kumera Kitchen proudly provided catering for the cast and crew. Good work everyone!

Community feast!

For those who haven't checked out the community kitchen we assisted in establishing, go to the Merewether Uniting Church (178 Glebe Rd. Merewether) at 6pm on a Tuesday evening.
Each week the kitchen cranks out several delicious, healthy, mostly organic meals.
We are feeding around 80 people each week now, and it just keeps on growing.
A huge shout out to the amazing volunteers who keep the wheels rolling.
To get involved, contact Tia 0401 024 707.
